City Tower Manchester Re-Rope
Project date: December 2023
In December 2023 our lift engineering team, now EES Vertical Transportation, replaced a set of six 13mm suspension ropes, each 300m long, at City Tower, Piccadilly Plaza, in Manchester city centre.
Access
Our in-house scaffolding team installed a single-level scaffold of our own design in the shaft. This allowed the landing doors to stay closed, protecting our engineers and building users alike.
Inspection
During the works on site we fully inspected all associated pulleys and the sheave for signs of wear and for defects that could cause future breakdowns or reliability issues. All associated fixings and plates were inspected for wear and signs of stress.
Installation
New wedge-type anchorages and certified factory-made rope ends were installed.
Programme
The work required a team of four and was completed from a Friday to a Monday, over a weekend, to minimise disruption on site.
