The problem with MRL machine removal

TKE DAF and TW45 series MRL machines sit in confined shaft positions, and until now there has been no safe, repeatable method for disconnecting, lowering, and reinstalling them. Most contractors are limited to ad-hoc rigging, which extends downtime, increases risk, and leaves brake repair and re-roping programmes at the mercy of whatever access equipment happens to be available.

The frame is matched precisely to the DAF210L, DAF210M, DAF270L, and DAF270M machine footprint, along with the TW45 series. It allows our engineers to work on the MRL machine in place, within the shaft, rather than defaulting to workshop removal.

In most circumstances, this means:

  • In-shaft brake repair and replacement, with the machine remaining in the cradle throughout
  • Full re-roping and re-instatement carried out on site
  • A staged scaffold approach, with a working platform built first and MRL access established afterwards

Where the extent of damage requires it, the machine is still removed from the cradle and taken to a workshop or an agreed site workspace. The frame reduces the need for removal in most cases, it does not eliminate it entirely.

How the MRL lifting frame method works

The method follows a controlled, staged process. Our team first builds a working platform scaffold within the shaft, then extends access up to the MRL machine itself. The lifting frame and cradle then support the machine safely while our engineers carry out the brake work or re-rope directly in position.

Once the work is complete, commissioning and test documentation is produced in line with SAFed-aligned standards, giving the lift service provider or consultant a clear record of the work carried out.
