Project Overview
The maintenance team at the Park Cake Bakeries Bolton site contacted the EES Team with a motor issue affecting a food mixer.
We were tasked with an urgent repair of the motor, which required our team to visit site, extract the motor and move it to our workshop to carry out the repair, then return the repaired motor to the client within 48 hours.
Most Important and Challenging Facts About This Project
After a site visit to ascertain the issue, it was discovered that the motor started under excessive load, causing catastrophic failure of the windings.
The motor was not a standard 2-speed tap wired connection but was a McQuay 2-speed 4/8 pole dialander pole tap winding. In order to carry out the repair, the motor was extracted and taken to our workshop.
- Core repair and clean
- 48 hour turnaround
- Uncommon winding connection
How We Solved Issues and Successfully Completed the Project
The repair involved detailing, stripping out and removal of the damaged windings and insulation. Cleaning the copper from the damaged core plates, re-insulating the stator and winding new coils. Re-winding the stator and re-connecting as per the original specification.
Varnish impregnation and stove curing of the windings. Fully cleaning all other motor components and end shields etc. Replacing motor bearings and oil seals. Re-assembly of the motor and test run on both speeds to ensure correct operation.
- Re-assembly and test run of motor on both speeds
- Complete motor rewind
- Job completed successfully within 48 hour timeframe
