Project Overview
Marple Polymer, production manager contacted EES with an issue that was causing a halt to their rubber production.
Our engineers attended site to ascertain the issue and the best possible solution.
It was determined that the issue could not be fully rectified on site. So the motor was removed and taken to the EES workshop for repair before return and re-installation.
Most important and challenging facts about this project.
It was a challenging environment to work in with the motor in a difficult to access location.
This combined with the nature of the rubber production environment meant removal was more difficult than normal.
- Challenging access
- Difficult working conditions
- Weight of motor requiring extraction
How we solved issues and successfully complete the project.
Our skilled site service engineers determined the motor had an earth fault that could not be fully rectified on site.
The motor was electrically and mechanically disconnected, extracted from it’s position on site and transported back to the EES workshop.
The coupling was extracted from the motor shaft using our 50 tonne hydraulic extractors.
The motor was then fully dismantled and the earth fault was traced back to the brush gear insulation burning away due to carbon deposits built up over many years of service.
The brush gear was fully dismantled, cleaned, re-insulated with new bakelite tubing. The old perished cotton covered leads from the brush gear to the terminal block were replaced with new varpren cable.
The rotor and stator windings were chemically cleaned to remove built up carbon and dirt deposit and stove dried and re-varnished with anti-tracking varnish.
The slip rings were re-machined
The motor was fully re-assembled, painted and tested before our site service team returned to site for re-installation.
